Overview

Supporting your overall wellbeing with counselling, mental health support, life management, medical guidance, and helpful resources.

Olivia is our friendly virtual assistant, available to support you navigate through the application process 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether it's late at night or over the weekend, she's on hand to answer your questions, guide you through the application process, or help you find what you need.

While Olivia can't make hiring decisions (those are always made by real human recruiters), Olivia's here to ensure your recruitment journey stays smooth and accessible — anytime you need.

Olivia is our friendly virtual assistant designed to help streamline parts of the recruitment experience. Olivia can answer common questions, guide candidates through application steps, arrange interviews and provide timely updates, all to help make the application process smoother and easier to navigate.

Eligibility

Before we can employ you, we are required to verify your eligibility to work in the UK & Ireland. Acceptable documents to evidence your right to work can be found here. You'll need to provide original documents such as a valid passport or a valid UK/Ireland visa (with a college letter listing term dates, where applicable). Only original documents will be accepted.

Interview and Selection

What type of questions do you ask at an interview?

The interview is an absolutely vital part of our hiring process. Without it, we wouldn't get a proper picture of what kind of person you are, and whether you'd be a great fit at McDonalds. The interview will normally involve a set of questions around values and attitudes and will allow the interviewee to really show us why they're the right person for the job. For instance, we might ask for an example of times you've worked as part of a team and how you made a difference to that team. In short, we look for people who have the right attitudes and behaviours to deliver a great customer and colleague experience; we hire for qualities and potential, rather than qualifications.

What prospects do I have working at McDonald's?

Our employees tend to stick around. Partly because it's a fun, sociable and flexible place to work, but also because there are opportunities to progress into roles with more responsibility. In fact, 9 out of 10 of our restaurant managers, and 1 in 5 of our franchisees, started out as crew members behind the counter or in the kitchens. That's an unbelievable stat that we're very proud of. We've also been recognised as a leading employer over the years, offering award-winning learning, nationally-recognised qualifications, comprehensive benefits and flexible working arrangements, as well as a well-proven career path.

If you are unable to attend interview slots, you can contact Olivia and she will help you rearrange to find a date suitable for you.

Role and Responsibilities

Join us and you'll become part of a team that works together to provide the best customer experience. As a Crew Member, you'll make it happen, whether you're preparing food, serving on the till or being out in the dining areas looking after our customers' needs. You will consistently deliver the highest standards of quality, service and cleanliness in the restaurant. Provide friendly, fast and accurate service. Complete tasks and activities in line with training, company guidelines and management direction. Follow all workplace safety, security and food hygiene procedures. Treat all customers and colleagues with courtesy and respect working as a supportive team member.

Benefits and Working Conditions

Benefits package includes: Holiday pay, Service Awards, Meal allowance, Employee discounts from top high street and online brands and much more. Premium Shift pay is available. If you work overnights, between the hours of midnight and 5am, you'll earn extra pay. Every team member, including our hourly-paid workers, earns above the national minimum wage. We also offer a range of benefits including holiday and sick pay, and employee discounts that offer savings at over 1,600 retailers.

Scheduling and Pay

We offer flexible shifts; our restaurant hours range from location to location, with many restaurants open 24 hours a day. Pay frequency varies by role and location: typically, hourly paid employees are paid every 2 or 4 weeks, and salaried employees may be paid monthly.

Qualifications and Dress Code

What should I wear to work? You'll be provided with a uniform. Does McDonald's promote its employees? Definitely. We highly value talent and encourage advancement from within. How old do you need to be to work at McDonald's? The minimum age may vary by location.

Sustainability

Does McDonald's have any sustainability plans or pledges in place? At McDonald's, we are working hard to take the necessary steps towards a more sustainable business and future. In 2021, we launched our first net-zero restaurant. Watch this video to learn more about our new, ground-breaking store!
