Job summary
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, and effective manner.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and visitors, either in person, email, or via telephone/video call.
Main duties of the job
1. Signposting
2. Appointment booking
3. Answer queries from patients and staff
4. Scanning incoming hospital letters
5. Admin duties including eRS referrals, FP69 links, new patient registrations, etc.

Job responsibilities
* Ensure an effective reception service, acknowledge patient arrivals, and manage queues appropriately.
* Handle general enquiries, explain procedures, and manage appointments with professionalism and patience.
* Communicate test results accurately and in a timely manner.
* Complete referrals and document receipt in patient records.
* Manage patient alerts and urgent consultations effectively.
* Maintain awareness of surroundings, clinics, and staff schedules.
* Explain practice arrangements to new and temporary patients.
* Answer and divert phone calls politely, take accurate messages.
* Book, cancel, and amend appointments using the system.
* Maintain good relationships with NHS bodies and external parties.
* Arrange patient reviews, follow practice targets, and adhere to CQC guidelines.
* Keep the environment clean and adhere to infection control standards.
* Provide detailed handovers and complete daily admin tasks promptly.
* Handle insurance requests, interpret for patients, and book transportation as needed.
* Participate in training and inform patients about online services.
* Register new patients promptly and accurately.
* Manage emails, post, and respond to urgent communications.
* Ensure premises are opened and secured properly daily.
* Assist in meeting practice targets and participate in staff meetings.
* Cover shifts as needed and report incidents appropriately.
* Signpost patients to other services and undertake additional duties as assigned.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE grade A-C in English and Maths
* Previous NHS experience
Experience
* Experience in a GP practice
* Confident speaker
* IT skills (Office 365, Outlook, etc.)
