Job Summary
The Senior Buyer will manage direct materials procurement operations and maintaining cost-effective purchasing strategies. Drive negotiations with suppliers, analyse market trends, and provide leadership and execution of relationships with key vendors to achieve annual operation plans. The tasks and duties of a Senior Buyer are both varied and dynamic, requiring keen attention to detail and a proactive approach.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of a Senior Buyer include the strategic sourcing of materials and services, managing procurement processes, and optimizing cost without compromising on quality. This involves:
* Developing and executing procurement strategies that align with company goals.
* Make v Buy, Should Cost Model, Supplier On Time Delivery
* Negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers to secure advantageous terms.
* Performing cost analyses and setting benchmarks for quality and cost.
* Ensuring timely delivery of materials and services from vendors to support operations.
* Conducting market research to stay updated on industry trends and new suppliers.
* Maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders (engineering, operations, finance, warehouse).
* Auditing and onboarding of new vendors, risk review
* Lead Purchase Price Variance (PPV) opportunities
* Maintain PPV Funnel and Execution of PPV Projects
* Develop team competencies and cross-training
Qualifications/Experience
* A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, supply chain management, or a related field is essential.
* Additional certification such as Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)
* Purchasing Professional (CPP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) is highly desirable.
* Proven experience in a procurement or purchasing role, and experience in a senior position handling complex procurement task
* Strong knowledge of procurement and vendor management software (Oracle, SAP).
* Excellent communication, negotiation and analytical skills.
* Supply Chain and procurement – E2E knowledge, regulations
* Listening and communication
* Analysis – problem solving and getting to the root cause.
* MS Project
* Office Suite (data analytics, presentation)
* ERP/MRP
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements
Site based in Sunderland with occasional travel to meet requirements of role
