Role - Production Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer
Location - Chelmsford, UK
My client is seeking a a Production Engineer (RF Power) to join a high-performing engineering team supporting a High Voltage (HV) solid-state modulator product line.
This is a hands-on, technically challenging role where you will sit at the intersection of engineering and manufacturing ensuring products are built efficiently, perform reliably, and continuously improve throughout their lifecycle.
You’ll work closely with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to solve complex problems, optimise processes, and support the successful introduction of new technologies into production.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide day-to-day technical support to manufacturing and supply chain teams, resolving production issues and implementing corrective actions
* Perform detailed component-level fault diagnosis to identify root causes and improve product reliability
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimise production processes, reduce cost, and enhance quality
* Develop, maintain, and improve standard operating procedures and production documentation
* Support New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring designs are suitable for manufacture (DFM/DFA) and successfully transitioned into production
* Manage product lifecycle activities including component obsolescence, sourcing challenges, and engineering changes
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, quality, and supply chain to ensure smooth operations
* Maintain configuration control and support balanced production line development
* Contribute to risk assessments, COSHH evaluations, and promote a strong health and safety culture
Requirements
* Experience working within an electromechanical or electronics manufacturing environment
* Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical assembly processes, production workflows, and testing
* Proven ability to troubleshoot faults at component level and perform root cause analysis
* Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams
* Ability to work independently, think critically, and deliver under pressure
* Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
* Familiarity with RF and/or electrical testing techniques (desirable)
* Understanding of high-voltage electronics or encapsulation processes (desirable)
* Experience with ERP systems such as SAP (desirable)
* Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies (desirable)
