Overview
Base pay range: £40,000 - £70,000 p.a depending on experience plus a performance bonus. Location: Central Bristol office at least two days per week with remote working options. Flexible working considered. Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with one hour for lunch; role is available on a flexible basis, full time or part time. Thrive Renewables is a certified B Corporation, scoring in the top 3% of UK B Corps for positive environmental and social impact. The company has developed, built or funded 44 renewable energy projects across onshore wind, solar, hydro, battery storage and heat.
We are looking to appoint the position of Asset Engineer to ensure the reliability and long-term productivity of Thrive’s growing portfolio. This role may suit someone moving from a technician role to a more office-based position involving data analysis to drive improvements.
Responsibilities
* Champion a strong health and safety culture across all asset activities; ensure compliance with regulations, industry good practice, and internal policies.
* Oversee technical asset inspections and monitor the health and performance of assets within the Thrive portfolio.
* Identify and diagnose performance and reliability issues and recommend actions.
* Conduct periodic detailed inspections and assessments of assets; develop and manage an asset inspection regime and respond to output.
* Design and implement measures to drive reliability and performance; develop reliability improvement plans across the portfolio.
* Analyse failure modes and trends to reduce downtime and optimise asset life.
* Identify opportunities to enhance production; develop and implement asset management strategies.
* Build and maintain asset strategies tailored to end-of-life optimization; collaborate with O&M providers to align asset strategies and input to new or renewing O&M contract scopes.
* Develop spare parts strategies and obsolescence management plans; provide technical support for the Asset Management team.
* Identify and manage technical and operational risks; support risk tools and mitigation strategies.
* Work with internal teams and external partners; provide technical input to investment decisions, life extension work and commercial claims (e.g., warranty or insurance).
* Promote and oversee site activities aligned with Thrive’s policies on community engagement, biodiversity, net zero and sustainable procurement.
Requirements
* Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Electrotechnical Engineering and/or renewable energy qualification.
* Experience in the renewable energy sector commensurate with the role’s responsibilities and seniority.
* Ability to understand, review and apply safety arrangements such as Safe Systems of Work, Risk Assessments and Near Miss reporting.
* Analytical mindset; ability to challenge and understand why.
* Data analysis experience: collecting, analysing and presenting data on energy production.
* Familiarity with industry guidelines such as WTSR, operational control, or direct experience on operational assets is advantageous.
* Proven experience maintaining operational assets in renewables, ideally onshore wind or other renewables.
* Strong understanding of reliability engineering, condition monitoring and failure analysis.
* Experience developing asset strategies and managing ageing assets.
* Ability to communicate technical matters to a non-technical audience.
* Familiarity with O&M contracts, spares management, and risk frameworks.
* Strong IT skills including Office 365 and Excel; ability to review asset data via SCADA and Asset Management systems, analyse datasets, and use tools like Power BI. Willingness to adopt bespoke applications.
* Some travel to project sites, external meetings and conferences will be required.
* A full UK driving licence is advantageous.
