This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals considering a career in teaching, experienced Cover Supervisors, graduates, or those with experience working with young people who are looking to gain valuable school-based experience.
Job Specification
Working as a Cover Supervisor can be a very rewarding but very demanding role. Schools may wish to employ staff for cover supervision but on occasions where they are not needed for cover, they might also be released to provide additional support to Teachers in classrooms, or to carry out administrative tasks.
Ideally, candidates will be required to:
Develop curricular knowledge in line with the school requirementsApply the school’s behaviour management policy and report any difficulties to the class Teacher/senior leadership teamSet homework in line with the classroom Teacher requirementsProvide homework under the guidance of the class TeacherAdminister class tests if requestedSupervise the work of the Teaching Assistant, providing support if requiredAbide by and work towards all policies within the school, eg – behaviour management, health and safety, equal opportunitiesCarry out pre-prepared exercises in the short term absence of the class TeacherEnsure students remain on task through classroom managementYou will not be required to plan lessons, but will have the opportunity to lead the classAssisting students where required and ensuring lessons are deliveredCollect completed work and pass to the class teacher.
