This appointment is for a full time Consultant Psychiatrist in the Learning Disabilities

team (10 sessions). This is currently a community post only. The successful applicant

will work closely with other professionals in the Learning Disability service as part of

multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and also closely with other Consultant Psychiatrists

across the Trust as required.

The post holder will be expected to be a strong advocate for people with a Learning

Disability and have an awareness of health inequalities that are faced by people with

a Learning Disability.

The post holder is expected to hold Certificate of Completion of Training in General

Adult Psychiatry (ST6 trainees should be within six months of attainment at the time

of the interview) or CESR equivalent and be included on the Specialist Register or

eligibility for inclusion.

The successful applicant for this post will be based across both Learning Disability

Team sites, which are Firshill Rise and Grenoside in Sheffield. The postholder will

have office accommodation, with IT support for e-mail, internet access and secretarial support.

* People who present behaviours of concern and are at risk of psychiatric hospital

admission

* People with a Learning Disability who require optimisation of their medication in

line with the national Stopping Overmedication of People with Learning Disability

and/or Autism (STOMP) agenda

* People with a Learning Disability and mental health problems whose needs cannot

be met by other services with reasonable adjustments

* People with a Learning Disability and Autism whose needs cannot be met by other

services with reasonable adjustments

* People with a learning disability and dementia whose needs cannot be met by other services with reasonable adjustments.

At SHSC, we prioritise the well-being and safety of both our service users and employees. It is our policy and a condition of employment that all employees must join the DBS Update Service. This service carries an annual fee, which employees are responsible for paying up front. However, employees may claim this cost back through the Trust's Employee Expenses Reimbursement Policy. For those requiring a Basic DBS check, it is necessary to register for a DBS Online Account.

* Provide medical leadership across the Learning Disability service. This includes

supervising and providing advice to other members of the multidisciplinary team

regarding psychiatric, medication and other relevant clinical issues.

* Attendance to and providing leadership during MDT meetings.
* Attendance and participation in team governance and team development

meetings.

* Contribution to the CPA process (and its successor) for patient management,

including regular liaison with care coordinators.

* Provision of medical/psychiatric assessments to inform care planning and risk

assessment, by regular clinic sessions and flexible use of clinical time.

* Formulation and delivery of appropriate pharmacological interventions
* Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Health Act. There is

a requirement for RC responsibility due to the expectation in this patient cohort that

some patients may be discharged into the community e.g., Community Treatment

Orders (CTO) Conditional Discharge. The post holder would be expected to be

approved as a Responsible Clinician and will be expected to renew this approval

according to agreed procedures. In the event of the post holder pending approval

to functions as a RC, existing consultants and S12 approved specialty doctors

within the service would provide cover for MHA related work for that interim period.

* Assessment and management of people subject to the Mental Capacity Act
* Completion of administrative tasks related to clinical responsibilities
* Liaison and advice to the locality general practitioners
* Liaison with other consultants and colleagues in community services and inpatient

wards

* Participation in multi-agency meetings in relation to patients
* Participation in Care and Treatment Reviews (CTRs) and Local Area Emergency

Planning (CTRs) and Local Area Emergency Planning (LAEP) meetings

* Clinical and educational supervision of junior medical staff
* Clinical supervision of Physician Associates
* Teaching and Mentoring.
