An established independent secondary school in Wolverhampton is seeking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Design Technology Teacher to join its creative and well-resourced technology department from September. Position Overview This role involves teaching Design Technology across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the potential to contribute to Key Stage 5 depending on experience and subject expertise. You will be expected to deliver engaging practical and theory lessons that support the development of design thinking, technical knowledge, and safe workshop practice. Working within an independent school environment, you will benefit from smaller class sizes, well-maintained specialist rooms, and access to quality equipment. The department is supported by experienced technical staff who assist with preparation and maintenance of workshop resources. You will also play a role in developing project-based learning opportunities that allow students to explore creativity while gaining essential technical skills. Core Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include: Delivering structured and engaging Design Technology lessons Teaching students how to design, plan, and manufacture products safely Supporting the development of technical drawing, modelling, and evaluation skills Preparing schemes of work and adapting lessons to meet varying student needs Monitoring progress through marking, feedback, and formal assessment Ensuring safe use of tools, machinery, and materials at all times Supporting coursework projects and practical examinations Maintaining classroom organisation and workshop safety standards Participating in school events such as exhibitions or showcase evenings Skills and Experience Required Applicants should demonstrate: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification A degree in Design Technology, Product Design, Engineering, or related subject Experience teaching practical Design Technology lessons Strong awareness of workshop safety procedures Ability to motivate students through hands-on learning Good organisational and time-management skills Willingness to contribute to extra-curricular design or engineering clubs Commitment to maintaining high standards of teaching and professionalism About the School This independent secondary school in Wolverhampton is known for its structured learning environment and emphasis on creativity across the curriculum.
