AXA XL Energy is looking for a skilled and experienced underwriter to take on a prominent role within the London team. The role will share responsibility for a broad portfolio of onshore energy risks, including downstream and midstream sectors alongside power generation, renewables and transmission and distribution. Experience is not required across all lines of business; there will be opportunities for exposure and technical development moving forward.
The right candidate will demonstrate underwriting acumen in conjunction with commercial awareness in both the insurance and energy markets. As well as day-to-day underwriting, they will need to sell the AXA XL proposition, maintain visibility, and bolster our leadership position within a congested market. They will look to grow and develop the line of business, whilst retaining the existing client base. They will also need to monitor and analyse portfolio trends, working with Actuarial, Risk Engineering and Claims to understand underlying issues and adjust underwriting strategy accordingly. They should be able to stay abreast of market dynamics, identifying emerging trends and regulatory developments.
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland's Fitness and Probity regime.
What you'll be doing
What will your essential responsibilities include?
* Reviewing submissions including slips, policy wordings, technical information, loss history and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine degree of participation for each account.
* Calculating appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs inherent to the upstream segment as well as the underwriting and general administration costs to ensure profitable underwriting outcomes.
* Active engagement with clients and brokers, ensuring excellent standards of service provision and turnaround times.
* Effective relationship management, facilitating cross-selling and supporting clients common to Downstream & Power, Renewables and Energy Liability.
* Support the financial planning and forecasting process; monitoring risk exposure within budgetary limits; monitoring premium income and cash flow.
* Maintain an overview of all claims, supporting the claims team and providing input in claims negotiations where necessary.
* Working collaboratively in a team environment, assisting all underwriters, underwriting assistants and management team.
* Support the training and career development of junior underwriters and underwriting assistants.

What you'll bring
We're looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
* Demonstrated underwriting experience within Power Generation, Downstream, Midstream or Renewables
* Under technical direction, works within significant limits and authority on assignments of higher technical complexity and coordination.
* Possesses technical knowledge and skills, including product and industry, reflective of successful progression through various job family levels.
* Advanced analytical, negotiation and sales/marketing skills.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Interpersonal Savvy - Demonstrated ability to build and maintain insured and broker contacts.
* Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy and planning.
* Collaborative team player who provides creative solutions and ideas for resolution
