Senior Specialty Fellow – Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia & Cardiac Intensive Care
Start Date: 5th August 2026
Contract Type: Fixed term (Training Contract) – 5 years (End Date: 3rd August 2027)
Purpose: Structured training and supervised clinical development with opportunity to contribute to service delivery.
Main Responsibilities
* Delivery of anaesthesia for patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgery and related cardiological procedures.
* Day‑to‑day care of 4–6 intensive care patients.
You will work within a multidisciplinary team of consultants, fellows, residents and allied health staff, and be encouraged to participate in teaching, quality improvement and research programmes.
Working Conditions
The cardiac intensive care unit is a 16‑bed ITU providing comprehensive cardiac support (not a transplant or ECMO centre). Service operates 24 hours per day and is consultant‑led.
Training includes full exposure to trans‑oesophageal echocardiography and other specialty training curriculum.
Framework equivalent to training grade doctors; an educational supervisor will be assigned. Opportunities for CPD and study leave are supported.
Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
* Three years of wide‑range clinical experience in anaesthesia and intensive care.
* Interest in cardiothoracic anaesthesia and intensive care.
Desirable criteria
* Teaching experience.
* Evidence of participation in audit or quality improvement.
* Research interest.
