Nursery Deputy Manager
The Orchard Day Nursery has been delivering high-quality childcare since 1989 to hard working Caversham families. Children spend most of their day in our beautiful landscaped 1/2 acre garden and families choose us for our home-from-home and creative atmosphere.
We are offering a new leadership opportunity to you experienced, inspiring and ambitious early years professionals to join and guide our small team from within. This opportunity will suit someone with experience of running a room or department and who seeks career progression and a greater say in how things are done. Perhaps you are an aspiring nursery manager keen to spread your wings and make a big impact on little lives. Inspired by the community and environment led Reggio Emilia ethos, Orchard delivers a balance of adult led and child initiated planning in the moment and within a statutory framework designed to keep children safe and stimulated practitioners are free to bring new ideas and practices to the programme. In addition to a richly resourced continuous provision the team currently delivers forest school sessions, Helicopter stories, Bucket Time, STEAM workshops, wood work and more. As an independent nursery and preschool and unlike many nursery chains that are prescriptive in their approach, we have broad scope to deliver teaching in a style that inspires both educators and the children in our community and can switch it up if we feel something different is needed in that moment to meet the needs of the child.

What we seek is a responsible and accountable colleague and leader who can ensure all children are safeguarded and their welfare promoted without question and that the curriculum is ambitious and reflective of the stage of development of each child and their potential and that respectfully responds to their cultural capital.
The position offered will require you to act as a key person with a small caseload of key children and supported in this role by a key buddy to ensure you have time to focus on staff development, leadership and admin tasks too.
