We are currently looking for an experienced Full Time SENCO for Aurora Hedgeway School. The school supports young people aged 7+ with a primary or secondary diagnosis of Autism and related social and communication needs.
We offer life skills and a wide range of GCSE/Functional Skills/BTEC qualifications alongside a functional skills/entry level pathway. Behaviours across the school are excellent.
The main purpose of the role:
As our SENCo, you will be a member of the SLT and support the Headteacher in managing the school's Special Education Needs (SEN) provision and overseeing the day-to-day operation of that policy to raise SEN pupil achievement.
You will be responsible for teaching and learning for SEN across the school.
1. Identify and adopt effective teaching approaches for pupils and disseminate these throughout staff.
2. Monitor teaching and learning activities to meet SEN pupils' needs and track AFL data for reviews, PEPs, LAC Reviews, and school reports.
3. Liaise with other schools to ensure continuity of support when transferring SEN pupils.
4. Collaborate with the transition team, therapy team, and class team to address paperwork gaps for new starters before their next review.
5. Set targets to raise achievement among all pupils.
6. Collect and present assessment and performance data to staff and professionals.
7. Ensure staff can recognize and fulfill statutory responsibilities to SEN pupils.
8. Provide training for staff and support assistants on SEN, including whole school inset.

Qualifications:
* Qualified Teacher Status
Knowledge and Experience:
* Experience with pupils with SEN and understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, including complex needs
* Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
* Understanding of therapists' roles in meeting EHCP outcomes and measuring progress
* Experience managing challenging behaviours
