PE Global is currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Engineer – Test Facilities Engineering to join our automotive engineering client based in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. This is an initial 6-month contract role paying up to £28.95 p/hour or £39.29 Umbrella p/hour.
This position requires working onsite five days per week at a state-of-the-art R&D and testing facility.
Key Responsibilities
* Evaluate, select, and deploy powertrain test cell technologies.
* Design and develop mechanical systems and associated services for test facilities.
* Lead and execute small-to-medium engineering projects across multi-functional teams.
* Modify facility plant, test rigs, and equipment to meet development requirements.
* Carry out complex fault finding and troubleshooting activities.
* Produce technical reports and communicate findings effectively.
* Develop, document, and maintain engineering processes and procedures.
* Work closely with internal teams, technicians, and third-party suppliers where required.
Requirements
* Experience working in an engine, powertrain, EV, or relevant mechanical test cell environment.
* Strong hands-on fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
* Experience managing engineering projects and delivering solutions independently.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and technicians across disciplines.
* Excellent communication, analytical, and technical reporting skills.
* Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and general engineering software.
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, although strong relevant experience will also be considered.
Desirable Experience
* Engine testing, product validation, or development engineering.
* Diesel, petrol, battery testing, or EV systems.
* Experience with engineering drawings, Creo, or Teamcenter.
* Backgrounds in automotive, aerospace, or rail industries.
Working Hours
* Monday – Thursday: 8:30 am – 4:45 pm
* Friday: 8:30 am – 4:15 pm
Additional Information
* Occasional travel may be required (less than 10% overall).
* Interviews will consist of a 90-minute face-to-face session including technical questions and a facility tour.
