A successful and established main MEP contractor based in Newcastle, with a strong project workload across North East / Yorkshire, requires an MEP Technical Manager to liaise with clients, main contractors, and external consultants.
Job Overview:
The Technical Manager oversees design-related issues throughout pre-construction and construction phases across multiple sectors. Responsibilities include managing the design process with commercial, contractual, programme, and technical expertise, supporting stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with current legislation and standards.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Document Management System (DMS):
* Complete contract documentation checklists with pre-construction and commercial teams.
* Onboard relevant consultants onto the DMS.
* Ensure stakeholders are trained and provided with user guides for DMS use.
* Review design, specifications, technical submissions, and RFIs through workflow approval stages.
* Ensure timely drawing reviews within project constraints.
1. Document Control:
* Coordinate with Document Controllers for project setup on DMS and QA checks.
2. Pre-Construction:
* Attend tender handover meetings.
* Review Employers Requirements and consultant designs as requested.
* Identify risks, scope gaps, cost-saving opportunities, and programme impacts.
* Assist in preparing risk registers, tender documents, and scope of service/appointment documents.
3. Project Delivery:
* Manage consultants and subcontractors, develop construction information schedules, and oversee design against Employer's Requirements.
* Facilitate communication among project teams, review quality and installation during site visits.
* Chair design meetings and workshops, contribute to progress reports, and ensure timely collation of manuals and logs.
4. Project Completion:
* Support defects and aftercare teams.
* Assist in lessons learned reviews.
