Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist - CAMHS East SCT

Our CAMHS Getting More Help Service is looking for a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (6 PAs) to join our Specialist Community Team East, based at Wokingham Hospital and covering Bracknell locality.

You'll work with children & young people with moderate to severe mental health needs across emotional dysregulation, trauma and depression pathways, supporting them in the community to access timely intervention. You'll play a key role in delivering innovative, multi-agency care in a team with very low wait times, making a real difference to young people and their families.

Our fully staffed MDT values holistic assessment, shared formulation & thoughtful care planning. Consultants are integral to shaping plans alongside colleagues, contributing clinical expertise within a genuinely collaborative environment.

Collaboration and peer support are central to how we work. Our MDT includes Clinical Psychologists, Family Therapists, Psychodynamic Psychotherapists, Mental Health Practitioners & Nurses. You\'ll work closely with families, wider CAMHS services & partner organisations, bringing a team-focused approach to complex cases.

In this role you\'ll have dedicated CPD time, monthly consultant meetings, and opportunities to develop teaching, special interests & service improvement projects.


Main duties of the job

* Provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment for children and young people up to 18 within the Bracknell locality
* Hold a caseload and deliver 2-3 clinical contacts per direct clinical session, depending on clinical complexity
* Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to shared formulation, holistic care planning and multi-agency decision-making
* Offer consultation and clinical advice to colleagues across the service
* Engage with families, schools, social care, community paediatrics, GPs and partner agencies to coordinate care
* Participate in service improvement, clinical audit, CPD and teaching

Job responsibilities

We welcome applications from candidates with:

* Full GMC registration and inclusion on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months)
* Approved Clinician status and Section 12 approval (or within 3 months)
* Excellent knowledge in speciality and experience working with children and young people with complex needs, spanning multiple agencies
* A strong commitment to multidisciplinary, collaborative, formulation-led practice

Person Specification


Qualifications

* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
* Additional clinical qualifications
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
* Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment.
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice


Clinical Skills, Knowledge & Experience

* Excellent knowledge in specialty.
* Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
* Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
* Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others.
* Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
* Experience in management of children and young people with complex needs spanning multiple agencies, with mental health and learning disability problems alongside behavioural issues.
* Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service.


cademic Skills & Lifelong Learning

* Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training.
* Ability to work in and lead team.
* Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement.
* Participated in continuous professional development.
* Participated in research or service evaluation.
* Able to use and appraise clinical evidence.
* Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes.
* Able to plan and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training relevant to this post.

* Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications.
* Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to service users.


Transport

* Holds and will use valid UK driving licence OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.

£109,725 to £145,478 a year pro rata per annum
