Our client, a leading player in the aerospace and manufacturing industry based in Farnborough, is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This position supports key business and engineering projects, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations and continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.
Role Purpose
You will be responsible for maintaining and improving manufacturing processes, ensuring consistent quality and performance, and driving operational efficiency. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including production, quality, engineering, and development, playing a pivotal role in supporting existing products and introducing new technologies.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage multiple workstreams, prioritising tasks to meet business demands.
* Optimise new and existing manufacturing processes.
* Provide technical support to resolve issues on current products.
* Drive quality improvements by eliminating rework and reducing scrap.
* Conduct root cause analysis for process and product issues.
* Work hands-on with production operators and technicians to implement improvements.
* Design and develop tooling for manufacturing and assembly.
* Maintain and update BOMs and routings using the ERP system (LN).
* Prepare and revise manufacturing documentation.
* Create and manage process/material specifications and capital justifications.
* Generate capital authorisation requests for tooling and equipment.
* Support the integration of new technology to enhance productivity and quality.
* Contribute to project planning, customer proposals, and cost estimation.
* Conduct risk assessments and maintain PFMEAs.
* Deliver training, toolbox talks, and presentations to teams, customers, or suppliers.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing/process engineering role.
* Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
* Proven background in continuous improvement and process optimisation.
* Mechanical and/or electronic engineering knowledge.
* Familiarity with AS9100 standards.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Experience with PPAP & APQP methodologies.
* Competent in quality tools such as PFMEA, control plans, and Six Sigma.
* CAD experience (preferably 3D).
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
Essential: HND (or above) in an Engineering discipline
Desirable: Degree in Mechanical or Production Engineering
