Picture a warehouse. Now make it bigger. Now double its size. When your main product is Aluminium used in windows, doors, conservatories and Balustrades, you need a lot of space. To give you a realistic idea, you could fit four full-sized football pitches in our warehouse.
In this space, our full production line happens, from receiving untreated goods to painting, to adding the plastic that makes it insulated. Everything that turns a piece of aluminium into our high spec, top of the range products happens in this space.
This role specifically focuses on the assembly of our products. There's three key parts of the process. You'll learn how to do all of them.
First, you have the material feeder. This person puts the aluminium onto the machine.
Then comes the strip feeder. This person makes sure the aluminium and insulation are lined up, of good quality, and ready for the next part of the process. You'll need a keen eye for detail here, as you'll need to spot when the product may not quite be up to standard.
Finally, you have the Offloader/packer. This person gets the product from the end of the conveyor and packs it into a stillage, ready to be stored and distributed to our customers.
The conveyor is always moving, with upwards of 200+ items going through an hour, so you'll need to be able to maintain a steady pace to keep production moving. Most of the material weighs around 8kg, however, some pieces are considerably heavier at 20kg+. When you get to that weight, it's more likely 2 people will support in lifting.
You'll be trained on how to use our systems and machinery, and how to recognise each product – All we need from you is a willingness to learn, and team player mentality, and the physical fitness to be able to keep our customers happy by making sure their orders are shipped out on time.
A day in the life of a Production Operative will involve:
* Feeding aluminium and insulation through our machinery – This is the manual part of the role, ensuring all goods are made with care.
* Completing spot checks on quality – We have processes in place to make sure what we're sending out to customers is at the expected standard.
* Keeping systems up to date – You'll have the software you need to be able to know what needs to be created, when and in what quantity.
* Working in a safe way to look after yourself, your colleagues, and the material we sell.
To be a successful Production Operative, you'll need:
* To be physically fit. Some of our team members do over 15,000 steps per day And move around over a tonne of aluminium.
* To be willing to learn about our processes and products, and how to use our software.
* To be able to commit to our working pattern and be able to get to our warehouse. Public transport can be tricky, so a reliable way of getting here is needed.
* To have a can-do attitude and be willing to step in and help out our team members when required.
In return for your commitment and expertise, you'll get:
* Holidays – You'll get 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays) which increases to 38 days with length of service.
* Your birthday off – On top of your annual leave allowance, you'll also get your birthday off – Paid If it lands on a weekend, you can take it the day before or after
