SEMH Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision, Northumberland
Location: Northumberland
Contract Type: Full-time, Term-Time Only
Start Date: September 2025
Pay: £89–£108 per day (PAYE – based on experience)
Some pupils have been let down by the system. You could be the one who helps them believe in it again.
We’re working with a specialist alternative provision in Northumberland that supports secondary-age students with social, emotional, and mental health needs. These are young people who’ve faced challenges both in and outside the classroom—and they need staff who show up, stay consistent, and never give up.
This is a setting that values people as much as pedagogy. Relationships matter. Boundaries matter. And the belief that every young person deserves a chance to succeed matters most of all.
What your role will involve:
* Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils aged 11–16
* Helping students manage emotions and behaviour in a safe, structured way
* Supporting access to a flexible, skills-focused curriculum—academic, vocational, and life-based
* Working closely with a team of therapists, mentors, and teachers to ensure joined-up care
* Being a steady, positive presence—even on the tough days
What we’re looking for:
* Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, behaviour, or additional needs
* Confidence setting boundaries with empathy and consistency
* Brilliant communication skills and a non-judgemental mindset
* An understanding of trauma-informed approaches (or a willingness to learn)
* A belief that progress isn’t linear—but every step forward counts
What you’ll get from Protocol Education:
* Weekly PAYE pay—no umbrella deductions, just simple and transparent
* Free access to Thrive and de-escalation training
* Ongoing support from a SEND consultant who knows the local schools and the sector
* Long-term, high-impact roles where you’ll feel part of something important
