Candidates must be registered with GTCS. The role is available from August 2025, with some flexibility for a later start if needed.
Department staff include three full-time and one part-time teachers, plus a full-time Physics Technician. All full-time staff teach across the full age and ability range. One team member also teaches mathematics. Staff are encouraged to continue developing their subject knowledge and skills through internal and external training opportunities.
Curriculum offered:
Pupils transition to the Senior School in P7 (Geits), where they are taught general science. All three science departments contribute to this course. In S1 and S2, pupils are taught Physics as a separate science for 3 periods per fortnight. In S3, pupils can opt to take Physics to National 5 level over two years. In S5 and S6, Physics is an optional subject at SQA Higher and Advanced Higher levels. Physics has been a popular upper school option, with many pupils progressing to study Physics or engineering disciplines at university.
Department facilities include three dedicated laboratories and a well-resourced prep room, housed in the James Clerk Maxwell Science Centre. The department emphasizes practical teaching with increasing integration of IT. Extra-curricular activities include a science club, Moon Camp project, Physics discussion group, and Olympiad competitions.
Duties and responsibilities for all teachers include:
1. Planning, preparing, and teaching lessons tailored to pupils' educational needs.
2. Assessing, recording, and reporting on pupils' progress as per the Staff Handbook guidelines.
3. Engaging with the wider School Curriculum in alignment with the school's ethos.
4. Completing administrative and routine tasks outlined in the Staff Handbook.
5. Demonstrating commitment to professional development and curriculum development.
6. Performing additional duties as reasonably requested by the Rector.
7. Maintaining a professional and constructive demeanor with pupils, parents, and external agencies, upholding the school's external image.
