You’ll be joining our Civils Projects team - We deliver specialist civil engineering for the private and public sectors across the UK, building strong relationships based on a collaborative approach.

Reporting to the Regional Commercial Manager you will play a pivotal role supporting the development and deployment of tactical commercial processes overseeing programmes and projects within your portfolio of work. You will be working with Operational, Finance and Procurement teams to ensure delivery needs are met whilst maintaining appropriate controls to support commercial requirements

What will you be doing?

This role includes being a direct line manager to QS and Commercial Admin team members.

You'll monitor and managing resource levels and requirements within your team, escalating any issues to your line manager in a timely manner.

You'll set and monitor performance against individuals targets. Ensuring that your team members are up to date with mandatory training.

You'll produce and present contract terms briefings for delivery team including the development and roll out of contract admin handbooks.

Develop supplier tender engagements in conjunction with Procurement both for one-off or bespoke projects and for longer term programmes. You will set out work packages, appropriate Terms and Conditions, SLAs and flow down requirements from the corresponding main contract.

You will support the evaluation and award process.

Monitoring Certification and Payment Notices as well as cash receipts and raising non-compliance Notices as appropriate.

Management of rejections and disputes resolution, acting as an initial point of escalation, as well as raising unresolved issues, when necessary, in a timely manner.

On high volume contracts you will ensure that appropriate process and reporting are in place to monitor workload volumes and churn rates to maintain optimal levels to maximise cash flow and to minimise revenue risk.

You will ensure that contractual administration tasks, including, but not limited to, drafting and issuing formal correspondence in line with contractual processes, raising Early Warnings, Compensation Events and all other contractual Notices are completed, and you will act as an initial point of escalation in the event of dispute.

You will provide contractual guidance to the operational teams to ensure they understand their commercial obligations, and you will monitor and flag non-compliance.

You'll work in conjunction with senior commercial team members to set out process within your area for the review and validation of weekly and monthly valuations.

You'll provide guidance and governance to junior team members ensuring that all activities completed by the team are to the expected standard.

You'll be accountable for ensuring that cost information provided through your project / contract ledgers and the Finance Cost Management function is validated and that they are accurate and aligned with the works undertaken.

Ensuring appropriate cost accruals, including allowances for risks and ongoing liabilities, are robust and that reported project / contract margins are secure and in line with Group and Divisional reporting rules.

You'll ensure that all commercial records and registers are, accurately and diligently, maintained.

You'll also, present the same to operational and contract management staff, providing advice on areas of risk, opportunity and underperformance to support business decision making.

You'll work with the wider team and your client contacts to collect and collate relevant information on contractual SLAs and KPIs and impact of value, validating these with the client to secure benefits / mitigate impacts.

What you’ll bring

Demonstrable experience working within the Infrastructure or Construction industry in a similar role.

Advance qualification in Quantity Surveying (BSC or equivalent) is required.

RICS or CICES beneficial – M Group are committed to supporting the development of our people and can offer support to gain chartership if you do not already have the accreditation.

Previous experience as a line manager or functional manager of junior QSs or administrators advantageous but not essential.

Experience in NEC3 & NEC4 contract types and suites is essential. Experience of other contract types and suites, such as FIDIC and JCT, is also beneficial

Prior experience of projects in value of up to £20m as well as a number of small projects

Strong professional relationship management skills

Strong IT skills including all standard MS Office applications, and particularly Excel

Focused knowledge of data management and analysis techniques essential

Sound communication and negotiation skills

Full UK driving license – this includes travel across sites
