We have a new and very exciting opportunity to join the Data Insight Team within Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies as a Business Intelligence Developer.

Why this role matters?
As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will influence decision making by working closely with all roles across the analytical space. You will make the force more efficient and effective in its use of data insight by providing expertise in data visualisation, User Interface (UI), and User Experience (UX). Creating informative and concise reports by utilising programmatic approaches to data manipulation, storytelling, and Business Intelligence (BI) domain knowledge. The senior position will also line manage the BI Developers, akin to the current Senior Analyst post.
What will you do?
* To design, build and deploy Business Intelligence (BI) solutions using cutting edge self-service insight and analytical tools.
* Translate business needs to technical specifications.
* Horizon scan, evaluate and improve existing BI systems.
* Develop and update technical guidance and training documentation.
* To consult on all technical visualisation requirements so to ensure existing tools/systems are used efficiently to enable delivery of core products and reports.
* Development of complex data visualisation products/reports utilising programming languages.
* Support the department in ensuring that analytic tools facilitate the requirements of statutory data returns, and consumers of data.
* As directed by the Data Insight Manager provide a liaison point between A&I and external practitioners with the aim of linking business intelligence to organisational infrastructure.
* To liaise with external suppliers of technical solutions to ensure the latest innovative software is used in the most efficient way.
What are we looking for?
* Strong experience of utilising business intelligence, analytics, and data visualisation tools, such as Power BI.
* Strong experience of building high quality dashboards and visualisations in line with business and user requirements.
* Experience of working with senior managers, data engineers, data scientists, internal customers and external partners.
* Evidence of working to multiple deadlines, delivering results through effective planning, and organising priority tasks accurately and with minimal supervision.
* Strong problem-solving skills and providing innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and effectiveness by exploiting data.

You will be working in a small team which covers both Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies and will report to the Business Intelligence (BI) Manager. The work is varied, dynamic and interesting, with an excellent team environment. The team now largely work from home with occasional requirements to attend the office, but agile working is available. There are flexible working opportunities along with access to the force's sports and social club and local government pension schemes.
Essential Criteria
* Strong experience in UI and UX design principles and analysing, modelling, and interpreting data.
* Experience of or qualifications in, transforming service delivery through relevant BI technologies (e.g., Power BI, Shiny, Quarto, Python, MSSQL)
* Excellent Communication skills with the ability to interpret and explain complex and technical issues to a non-technical audience
* Strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple work streams in supporting the delivery of projects within defined timescales
* Strong experience of innovative and creative approaches to problem solving, leading to improving efficiency and effectiveness through data visualisation tools and techniques
* Experience in developing practices that encourage single, unambiguous, authoritative representation within a centralised system, e.g., DRY concept 8. Experience in developing data models that support business intelligence requirements that ensure accuracy and reliability of data.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience of advanced data analytics techniques (forecasting and trends, how to choose the right technique etc.)
* Experience in the use of programming languages to create bespoke visualisation reports and applications
* Experience in database design principal
Hours of work are 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, with flexible working also considered. 1 permanent and 1 temporary post for 12 months.
