Job description
Our client, operating in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Control System Engineer to join their team on a contractual basis. This role is based in the Land Business Unit with a hybrid arrangement allowing for 3-4 days on-site in Glascoed. The contract duration is 12 months.
Controls Systems Engineer
What you'll be doing:
* Assist in the development of new manufacturing processes, in line with Engineering Plans and Budgets, ensuring technical solutions and processes are robust, timely, cost-effective and meet Customer expectations
* Implementation and validation of Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assignments to new machinery
* Assist in the specification and qualify new equipment, often working with suppliers to meet tight deadlines. Ensure all process equipment meets regulatory and safety standards
* To conduct and document Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) in relation to SIL
* To support and contribute to FMEA's, PFMEA's, DFMEA;s, RCM studies in support of SIL activities
* Modifying PLC/HMI/SCADA programs and other programmable devices.
* Commissioning newly installed controls systems in accordance with the agreed technical specifications.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
* Minimum HNC / HND Electrical / Electronic, Systems Engineering or Equivalent
* A demonstrable knowledge of Safety Integrity Levels (SIL)
* Experience and demonstrated knowledge of PLC systems ideally with TIA and Simatic Manager
Desirable
* Knowledge of Cyber Security for Industrial Controls Systems (IEC62243)
* Defining and populating process safety cases
The team:
This role is responsible for the development of manufacturing processes from concept through to commissioning and qualification. You will be the subject matter expert in defining controls systems requirements for new machinery.
Specific duties will include the identification and management of process technical requirements, provision of expertise into the PLC systems, provision of engineering support to the tendering process, implementation of Layers of Protection work in line with Company and Statutory requirements and provide technical input through the commissioning and qualification process.
A good knowledge of statistical techniques for measuring process capability and maintaining process control would be an advantage, including an understanding of six-sigma and the ability to develop, establish and maintain capable production processes.
