Highway Engineer (Mid to Senior Level)

About the role
Join our growing Transport team in the North East, supporting the region’s ambition for sustainable mobility and inclusive connectivity. You will deliver a range of projects, from major National Highways schemes to urban highway improvements, working closely with local authorities, the public realm, and transport agencies.
Responsibilities
* Lead the design and project management of diverse transportation projects.
* Develop and review drawings, reports, calculations, bills of quantities (BOQs), and specifications, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
* Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
* Prepare bid documents for high‑profile projects, working within tight deadlines.
* Input into design and coordination, liaising with other multidisciplinary contributors to ensure timely delivery of technical standards.
Qualifications & Experience
* HND, degree, or master’s in civil engineering, transport or a related field.
* Experience with industry‑standard software such as Civil 3D, AutoCAD, AutoTrack, PDS Line, MicroDrainage and other design tools for small‑ and large‑scale highway projects.
* Knowledge of highway design, pavement design, surface‑water drainage design, and NEC contract documentation.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to articulate complex issues, produce reports and present to stakeholders.
* Professional qualification or active pursuit of a relevant professional qualification (e.g., IStructE, ICE).
* Enthusiasm for a career in transport and a thorough understanding of the sector’s life‑cycle delivery.
