We're recruiting a Principal Internal Auditor who will play a key role in delivering highquality assurance across strategic, complex and crosscutting areas of the council’s work. This role contributes directly to strong governance, effective risk management, and continuous improvement across services that shape Salford’s communities. You'll lead and quality assure complex audit assignments, provide clear and authoritative insight, coach and mentor colleagues, and represent the service in senior forums. The role also includes deputising for the Internal Audit Manager where required. You'll use your expertise to assess control environments, support improvement, and contribute to the development of innovative and digital approaches to audit delivery. What you’ll do Lead and qualityassure complex audit assignments in line with the Global Internal Audit Standards in the UK Public Sector Provide authoritative insight and assurance to senior leaders Mentor and coach colleagues to support professional growth and continuous improvement of the service Represent the service in special interest forums and deputise for the Internal Audit Manager when required Support innovation, including digital approaches to audit What we’re looking for Experience in delivering assurance and consultative services Strong analytical, advisory, and communication skills Ability to build effective relationships at senior levels Confidence in leading high profile work and managing competing priorities Candidates should ideally hold level 6 or 7 or equivalent professional qualifications with relevance to our work, and maintain ongoing professional membership if there's an associated professional body We are particularly interested to hear from applicants with finance (CIPFA/CCAB) or social work qualifications and experience to complement our existing talent.
