Overview
The team is responsible for the delivery of the Local Authority's statutory duties in relation to the assessment, provision and review of children and young people with complex SEN. Working closely with parents and other professionals from schools, health services and social care, the team ensure that the special educational needs of children are met within the context of managing resources fairly and equitably.
The SEN team co-ordinate the statutory assessment and review process, produce Education, Health & Care Plans, identify and commission appropriate provision. We want every child and young person aged 0-25 with SEND to have the fullest opportunity to be happy, healthy and achieve their full potential.
Responsibilities
* Support a small team of SEN caseworkers, overseeing the administration of procedures for the assessment, drafting and amending of EHCPs, placement and review of children and young people (0-25) with SEND, and ensuring EHCPs are of a high quality and meet statutory duties in relation to the Children and Families Act (2014), the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and the Equality Act (2010).
* Support the effective day‑to‑day operation of the SEN team through casework meetings, one‑to‑ones, and supporting staff through induction and training opportunities.
* Hold a small but complex caseload, involving attendance at meetings and reviews as necessary, and support the managers and Head of Service by coordinating year groups, annual reviews and transitions as required.
Qualifications
* Proven experience of working with children/young people with SEND and their families within a similar role or possibly within an educational setting.
* Strong knowledge and understanding of the SEND code of practice and the underpinning values of the Children's and Families Act (2014) and of good quality SEND provision and how this can be delivered.
