Gardener
Salary: £11,938 (full time equivalent of £27,234)
Location: Cambridge, St Edmunds College
Contract type: Permanent, Part Time (16 hours per week)
We are looking for a green-fingered individual to ensure the efficient day-to-day upkeep of the College’s gardens and grounds.
Job responsibilities:
1. Perform basic maintenance such as cutting the grass, pruning hedges and small trees, removing rubbish, managing weed control, leaf clearing, and watering the plants.
2. Plant and nurture plants, hedges, and trees as required, including the maintenance of borders.
3. Advise your manager of any garden pests or diseases and take appropriate action.
4. Sweep all paths and hard-surfaced areas around the College, and carry out snow-clearing and frost gritting in winter.
5. Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained safely and correctly.
6. Keep the garden shed clean, tidy, and safe.
7. Work with colleagues to share best practices and ensure policies are followed.
8. Maintain the College grounds, report problems, and help keep the College litter-free.
What we need:
The successful candidate will follow instructions proactively, work independently to a high standard, and understand the role's requirements.
The candidate must have:
* Previous gardening experience
* Basic knowledge of workplace health and safety, with the ability to comply and update knowledge
* Full clean driving license
* Good knowledge of gardening, plants, lawn care, and glasshouse work
* Experience using and maintaining gardening machinery
