A successful and rapidly growing equipment hire business is seeking a proactive Logistics & Operations Manager to oversee the coordination, movement, and control of equipment across the operation.
This role is ideal for an experienced operational leader who enjoys working in a fast-moving environment and can combine strong organisational skills with a hands-on approach. You will take ownership of dispatch, stock management, returns, and team leadership, ensuring equipment and products are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.
The Role Reporting into senior management, you will be responsible for the smooth running of daily logistics and warehouse operations, ensuring customer orders are fulfilled accurately and on time while maintaining excellent operational standards throughout the business.
Main Duties
Manage the day-to-day operation of dispatch, goods movement, equipment returns, and inventory activities.
Lead and support operational teams, ensuring productivity, accountability, and high performance across all areas.
Coordinate staffing and resources to meet operational demands and delivery schedules.
Ensure all equipment is tested, inspected, and correctly prepared before leaving site.
Oversee returned equipment processes, ensuring items are checked back in, assessed, and made ready for future hire.
Monitor stock levels and inventory accuracy, investigating any discrepancies or damaged items.
Drive improvements in operational efficiency, workflow management, and service delivery.
Work closely with internal departments including transport, sales, and account management to ensure smooth coordination of customer orders.
Maintain accurate operational records, delivery documentation, and compliance procedures.
Ensure safe working practices and transport compliance standards are consistently met.
Develop and implement clear operational procedures and best practices to support business growth. Team Leadership
Supervise, coach, and develop warehouse and logistics personnel.
Carry out regular one-to-ones, performance reviews, and employee support meetings.
Manage attendance, conduct, and performance matters professionally and effectively.
Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training initiatives within the team.
Ensure sufficient staffing cover across operational hours, including overtime planning where required. Candidate Profile We are looking for someone with:
Previous experience in logistics, warehouse, distribution, or equipment hire operations.
Strong leadership skills with experience managing operational teams.
Excellent planning, communication, and organisational abilities.
Confidence managing stock control and operational processes.
A practical, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to improve efficiency and performance.
Good IT knowledge, including Microsoft Office and stock management systems.
The ability to work calmly under pressure in a customer-driven environment.
Experience delivering staff development, coaching, or training.
