These schools rely heavily on strong pastoral teams to support students who are frequently removed from lessons, at risk of exclusion, or facing barriers that impact their behaviour and readiness to learn. This is a vital role for pupils with SEND, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), and those who require additional guidance, structure and calm intervention throughout the school day. You will often be the first point of contact for students who have been sent out of class, are dysregulated, or need help to get back on track. What will you be doing? As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will: Respond quickly to behaviour incidents and support pupils who have been removed from lessons. Supervise and mentor students in isolation rooms, reflection rooms or on behaviour contracts. Use de-escalation techniques to manage heightened emotions and prevent further disruption.
