Learning Support Assistant
Location: Braintree
Reporting to: Headteacher, Class Teacher, SENCo, Senior LSA
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a welcoming school in Braintree. This role involves working closely with teaching staff to support pupils with severe learning needs, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their full potential in a safe, inclusive environment.
You will play a vital role in supporting pupils academic, social, emotional, and physical development, both individually and in small groups.
Key Responsibilities
* Support individuals or small groups under the direction of the class teacher
* Provide tailored support for pupils with learning, behavioural, communication, sensory, or physical difficulties
* Assist in delivering planned learning activities and adapt them based on pupil responses
* Promote positive behaviour and engagement in line with school policies
* Support literacy, numeracy, and ICT development
* Help implement IEPs/EHCPs and monitor pupil progress
* Provide personal care where required (e.g. toileting, feeding, mobility) following appropriate training
* Assist with classroom preparation, resources, and displays
* Supervise pupils during break times and on educational visits
* Support physical activities such as PE and swimming
What We’re Looking For
* Experience working with children in a school or early years setting
* NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Learning Support/Early Years (or relevant experience)
* Knowledge of safeguarding, health & safety, and school procedures
* Basic ICT skills
Skills & Knowledge
* Good literacy and numeracy skills
* Understanding of child development and the school curriculum
* Ability to support children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
* Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
* Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families

* The role may involve personal care and physical support duties
