Administration Officer | Forest Research | Corby | Hourly Pay | Immediate Start Hays is exclusively partnered with a leading government agency for forestry and tree-related research, to recruit an Administration Officer for their Technical Services Unit (TSU) in Corby. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a vital team, supporting critical scientific research across England and Wales. You'll gain valuable experience within a highly respected organisation, contributing to important environmental and land management efforts. The Opportunity This is a full-time, temporary assignment covering maternity leave, working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in the office. The assignment is expected to last a minimum of 10 weeks from 21st July 2025, with the potential for extension. You'll be paid an hourly rate, inclusive of holiday pay. As an Administration Officer, you'll be an integral part of a small, dedicated research team. You'll provide essential administrative and support services to colleagues spread across a wide geographical area, collaborating with both internal and external partners. Key Responsibilities Your dynamic role will involve a wide range of tasks, including: Comprehensive Administrative Support: Assisting a team of 9 with timesheets, vehicle logs, accommodation bookings, expense processing, and equipment procurement. Professional Communication: Handling calls, emails, texts, and visitors with discretion and professionalism. Confidentiality: Managing sensitive information with the utmost discretion. Land Access Coordination: Utilising data sources (including GIS) to identify landowners and negotiate access permissions for fieldwork and experimental sites. Facility & Equipment Management: Overseeing routine maintenance and repair needs for buildings, tools, and vehicles. Health & Safety / Training Coordination: Managing critical diaries for Health & Safety and training resumption. Policy Adherence: Promoting and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, regulations, and legislation, including Equality & Diversity. Reporting & Accuracy: Producing accurate, professional work and relevant reports, applying robust cross-checking methods. System Improvement: Identifying and implementing improvements to increase field station efficiency. Sustainability Support: Managing the field station's business sustainability commitments What We're Looking For Essential Criteria: Proven Administrative Experience: Demonstrable experience working in a busy administrative position. IT Proficiency: Competent user of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Strong Communication Skills: Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with diverse stakeholders. Organisational Skills: Proven ability to plan, prioritise work, make decisions, and problem-solve effectively. Autonomy: Demonstrable ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Flexibility: Willingness to work flexibly across a wide geographical area, including occasional overnight stays and adapting working patterns when necessary. Foundational Qualifications: Literacy Level 2 and Numeracy Level 2 qualifications (e.g., GCSE, NVQ, Key Skills, or equivalent experience). Desirable Criteria: Experience with Arc 10 GIS applications. Experience operating bespoke computer systems beyond Microsoft Office. Knowledge and experience of financial reporting systems.
