Requiredto fill this new post which will deliver 9 PAs. TheDepartment of Paediatric Endocrinology currently comprises 5 consultants andfour specialist nurses. The Endocrinology department provides a tertiary levelservice for West, East and North Yorkshire and Humberside. It provides acomprehensive service at Leeds Childrens Hospital and an extensive outreachservice. It has one of the largest footprints of any endocrine department interms of population and area covered. In 2013 Leeds was also established as thenorthern hub of the nationally commissioned Gender Identity Development (GID)service. This service is currently undergoing a national re-organisation.
Asa recognised tertiary paediatric endocrinology service, it covers all disordersof the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-gonadal axis, as described in theNational Service Specification. Specialist clinics include late endocrineeffects in malignancy, metabolic bone disease, obesity (including Complicationsof Excess Weight service), Turner Syndrome and GID. Combined clinics areundertaken at regular intervals with paediatric surgeons, gynaecologists andadult endocrinologists, and pathways for transitional care are established.There are also close working relations with supporting staff from pathology,radiology and genetics, with regular multidisciplinary team meetings, audit andclinical governance.
Main duties of the job
Thesuccessful applicant should hold accreditation with the Royal College ofPaediatrics and Child Health (or equivalent) and should be included on theSpecialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview, ifcurrently within a training programme within the UK. In accordance with the consultant appointmentregulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the SpecialistRegister.
Applicantsshould have established skills in paediatric endocrinology and be able to workindependently. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strongcommitment to teaching and service development are essential.

Job responsibilities
2.OBJECTIVESOF THE POST
2.1
Tomaintain a high quality regional Paediatric and Adolescent Endocrinologyservice
Toparticipate in existing research projects and develop further research
Tofacilitate training in paediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes, including GRIDtraining.
Toparticipate in the weekly joint multidisciplinary meetings with colleagues
Toshare supervision of patients in the day care unit and the wards
Todevelop shared-care guidelines and contribute towards the development ofmanaged clinical network across the regions
2.2Tolink with consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams withinthe Childrens Hospital and across the West Yorkshire region
2.3Todeliver acute on call telephone advice (1 in 3.6) for consultants within theTrust and across the West Yorkshire region. This includes being present on-siteduring normal working hours to manage acute issues and being available fortelephone advice for out-of-hours cover.
2.4Tocontribute to research, teaching and new developments within the speciality ofpaediatric endocrinology.The post holder will be encouraged to facilitate and contribute to the currentclinical research programs and develop new projects if desired.

Experience
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Paediatric Endocrinology.
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

* Attendance at recognised management course.
Qualifications
* MB BS (or equivalent)
* MRPCH (or equivalent)
* Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
* YOUR GMC NUMBER MUST BE CLEARLY STATED IN YOUR APPLICATION FORM.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Is up to date and fit to practise safely.
Training, Research, Teaching & Audit
* On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT in paediatric diabetes and endocrinology (or equivalent).
* Evidence of the ability to carry out medical research.
* Experience in training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
* Previous attendance on Appraisal Techniques and Small Group Teaching Workshops.
