Locum Consultant in Oculoplastic Ophthalmology
East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust – Ipswich Hospital, Heath Road, Ipswich, IP4 5PD, United Kingdom.
Contract: Fixed term, 5 months (ending 31 October 2026). Working pattern: Full-time. Salary: £113,565 to £150,569 per annum.
Responsibilities
* Take consultant clinical responsibilities within the department, managing junior doctors within the Acute Referral department and developing the oculoplastic service.
* Allocate session time in agreement with consultant colleagues: 8.5 clinical sessions of direct care and 1.5 SPA for professional development (total 10 PA).
* Provide cover for colleagues during leave and other authorised absences.
* Join on‑call consultant rota and receive supplement.
Essential Qualifications
* Full GMC licence to practice.
* FRCOphth or equivalent.
* Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCT in relevant specialty.
* Expert opinion in oculoplastic management.
* Independent responsibility for clinical care in patients with eye casualty conditions.
* Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service, including managing 2‑week wait for skin cancers.
* Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists.
* Experience managing junior doctors.
* Teamworking ability.
* Effective communication with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.
Desirable Qualifications
* Fellowship in Oculoplastics.
* Ability to manage and lead specialist unit, special surgery business unit, and working parties as appropriate.
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
* Publication in relevant journals.
