Enforcement & Market Oversight (EMO) is responsible for the FCA’s responsibilities for market monitoring, delivery of the functions of the UK Listing Authority (UKLA) and the investigation and prosecution of misconduct using the whole spectrum of criminal, civil and administrative sanctions and remedies against firms and individuals.
Sitting within the Enforcement & Market Oversight Division, the Retail and Regulatory Investigations (RRI) Directorate investigates firms and individuals across consumer markets to tackle misconduct, address financial crime, and ensure fair treatment that supports a safe and trusted financial services industry.
Role responsibilities
4. Guide and progress meaningful investigations by taking ownership of key workstreams and managing competing deadlines
5. Direct the full lifecycle of investigations by planning strategically, delegating effectively, gathering evidence using appropriate powers, drafting and reviewing documents, participating in interviews, and analysing findings
6. Act as a positive role model within your team by sharing, offering guidance, and mentoring junior colleagues
7. Contribute to key Departmental and Divisional projects designed to enhance processes, systems, and ways of working
8. Your input will help modernise our approach and improve how we deliver our regulatory responsibilities
9. Build effective, collaborative relationships with senior colleagues across the FCA and with counterparts in external partner organisations
10. Your ability to engage effectively will ensure alignment, improve information flow, and enhance our collective impact
11. (For legally qualified candidates) Provide clear, well‑reasoned legal advice to case teams and, where appropriate, take responsibility for preparing privileged correspondence
Skills required
Minimum:
12. Demonstrable significant ability working on complex investigations involving regulatory, civil or criminal concerns
13. Prior experience of working collaboratively and communicating effectively with colleagues, motivating and assisting more junior colleagues, as well as having the ability to take responsibility for delivering against deadlines and managing operational risks
14. Proven experience of analysing large amounts of information, drawing out key findings and producing formal written reports, including making recommendations
Essential:
15. Oversee and coordinate work on complex investigations involving large volumes of documents/data
16. Build and maintain positive and effective relationships with colleagues in other business units and with external bodies
17. Work collaboratively and inclusively with colleagues with different perspectives and backgrounds
18. Make clear, concise, logical and persuasive oral and written presentations on complex subjects
