Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Location: Torbay – site travel on occasions
Salary: £35,000-£45,000 & fuel card
Sphere Solutions are working with a reputable general contractor with a strong presence across the South West. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial team across a range of construction projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to develop their career in quantity surveying, with exposure to the full project lifecycle — from tendering and procurement through to final accounts.
About the Role:
Working closely with the Managing Director and Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will assist in the commercial management of projects ranging from £50k to £1.5m, including small extensions and larger work packages on high-profile sites.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in the measurement and preparation of Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for new projects.
* Support with tender preparation, cost plans, and procurement of subcontractors and materials.
* Help prepare and submit client applications and invoices using Xero.
* Maintain accurate cost tracking and assist in preparing project reports.
* Support subcontract management, valuations, and payment processes.
* Attend site and progress meetings to gain hands-on experience of project delivery.
* Assist with managing variations and pricing additional works.
* Learn to interpret and measure accurately from drawings.
About You:
* Ideally hold a qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (HNC/HND/Degree).
* Previous experience in a similar role is essential.
* Proficient in Excel and comfortable working with numbers and data.
* Good understanding of construction processes and commercial awareness.
* Must drive and have use of our transport.
* Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a willingness to learn.
* Confident communicator who enjoys working as part of a small, supportive team.
