The Urgent Care Centre, co located in the Emergency Department provides access to emergency nursing and medical care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Clinicians in the Emergency Department treat patients with life threatening, urgent and emergency conditions along with illnesses and injuries in all age groups.
The Emergency Department at UCLH cared for 148,000 patients last year, making it one of the busiest Emergency Departments in London. Over 74,000 of these patients were treated in the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).
With an increasing demand for urgent and emergency care we are seeking to expand and develop our Emergency Nurse Practitioner workforce and would welcome applications from Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Practitioners, Paramedic Practitioners and Advanced Clinical Practitioners to join our clinical team in the Urgent Treatment Centre.
Main duties of the job As a clinician within the Urgent Treatment Centre you will work as an independent, autonomous practitioner providing consistent high quality, evidence based, timely, patient centred care. Responsible for utilising expert diagnostic and clinical skills to provide autonomous, unscheduled medical care and management of a diverse range of patients with acute undifferentiated and undiagnosed illnesses and injuries.

Post holders are required to work day and night duties and pro rata weekends and bank holidays.

Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications Registered Level 1 Nurse with the NMC or o HCPC Registered Paramedic or o HCPC Registered Physiotherapist
Minor Injuries qualification accredited at level 6 or above.
Advanced Physical Assessment qualification at level 6 or above.
X Ray interpretation (IRMER).
Interpretation of images (Red Dot Course).
Independent Non Medical Prescriber.
Evidence of continuing professional education and training at Masters level.
MSc Advanced Practice.
Experience Minimum of 1 year post qualification as an EP.
Experience at band 6/7 in Urgent and Emergency Care.
Experience at Band 6/7 in Primary Care.
Proven experience of utilising expert diagnostic and clinical skills to provide autonomous, unscheduled care and management of patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.
o Experience of mentoring staff and students.
Communication oEnsure effective communication between staff, patients, visitors and outside agencies.
oWork collaboratively as required to ensure effective and efficient provision of health care services.
oCommunicate the vision and rationale of the service provided.
oUse communication skills in order to convey complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers and other staff, overcoming any barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events.
oEnsure that patient documentation is completed correctly, appropriately and in a timely manner.
oEnsure patients are able to gain access to health and social care information and support relevant to their needs.
oProvide information which enables patients to make choices about adopting a healthier lifestyle.
oEnsure patient confidentiality is maintained.
oMaintain professional boundaries and working relationships with patients and colleagues.
Personal and People Development oParticipate in staff development and in-service training activities and deliver teaching.
oAttend Trust/ local orientation programmes, Mandatory training sessions and annual updates.
oAttend annual appraisal and actively pursue own personal development plan.
oBe responsible for maintaining own knowledge, management and clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with CPD requirements.
oAct as preceptor/ facilitator/ mentor for staff and students.
oTake part in reflection and appropriate learning from practice, in order to maintain and develop competence and performance.
oMaintain a suitable learning environment.
oDemonstrate understanding of clinical governance and risk assessment.
oDemonstrate up to date knowledge of evidence based practice guidelines and policies and utilises in clinical practice.
