Job Description:
SJC Partners is currently managing the recruitment process for the hire of an acquisition search director into an innovative mergers and acquisitions deal sourcing business.
Our client specialises in sourcing off-market businesses for acquisition by private equity investors, PE-backed companies, listed businesses, and some private companies.
Businesses wishing to acquire or invest in other businesses engage our client to undertake a bespoke acquisition search process, uncovering target businesses within their specific criteria and facilitating the approach to these businesses. Companies rely on our client to have thorough commercial conversations with business owners, quickly understanding different business models and building trust with target businesses.
The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end client management across the following process:
1. Agree the scope of the acquisition search with clients, at board level.
2. Liaise with the research team to identify businesses within the client’s search criteria. Note: research will be conducted by an in-house team.
3. Approach major shareholders of target businesses and hold detailed, highly commercial conversations via video call about their business model, track record, growth, financials, and owner’s selling aspirations.
4. Discuss potential targets with the client and facilitate meetings with selected businesses.
5. Manage the acquisition process thereafter, requiring strong commercial acumen and relationship management skills.
Applicants should be able to quickly understand various business models, with experience at board level being important due to direct client interactions at owner/CEO level, often involving large corporates, private equity, and private equity-backed firms.
We welcome candidates from diverse commercial backgrounds. The current team includes individuals who have previously run their own businesses or operated at Director level.
This role offers a competitive salary with an attractive, transparent bonus structure paid multiple times annually based on deal activity. Bonuses are uncapped, and in a successful year, bonuses can amount to 100% or more of the salary.
