About Us
Handcross Primary School is a happy, successful, creative and caring school in a popular
location. We wish to appoint an Early Years Practitioner with the skills to work in either the
nursery or the reception class, supporting the Reception teacher or Nursery Manager with
all aspects of their role. The applicant needs to have a positive attitude, flexibility and
ideally experience of working with Early Years children. It would be desirable for the
candidate to have a Level 3 qualification or be willing to achieve it.

Job Details
Starting: Immediately
Contract: Temporary to July 2026, with opportunity to extend
Working pattern: Term time only, 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.45am to 3.15pm
Salaries are paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
This is a role within our nursery or reception class, initially, with a one-year contract.
Additional hours available to cover extended provision and priority catch-up groups.
Early Years Practitioner 27.5 hours a week Grade 3 - 4 £24,027-£25,183 depending on
experience (pro-rata actual salary: £15,736-£16,239pa)
Lunchtime Supervisor 2.5 hours a week Grade 2 £23,656 (pro-rata actual: £1,421pa)
Closing date: 30th May 2025 we reserve the right to close the process early if required.
Interviews: Week commencing 2nd June 2025

To be successful in this role you will need to:
Essential Criteria

➢ Must be sympathetic to the children’s needs
➢ To contribute enthusiastically to the staff team, be a good team player and have a very

➢ Willing to take part in professional development activities
➢ Sound understanding of child protection and safeguarding children and to have an
understanding of what is confidential in relation to children
➢ Have an ability to communicate effectively with pupils and colleagues and have good
organisation skills
➢ Work experience within the Early Years Sector
➢ Proven ability to work as part of team to ensure essential day-to-day tasks are completed
in line with nursery demands i.e. Hygiene standards and room preparation.
➢ Desire and passion for ongoing learning and personal development
➢ Good Maths and English levels at equivalent to GCSE Grade C or above
➢ Knowledge and understanding of how children learn
➢ Good levels of computing in IT
➢ Ability to use the required recording and reporting systems and feedback appropriately to
the EYFS leader/nursery manager
➢ Ability to adapt an activity for children experiencing difficulty
➢ Specific Experience of working within the 0-2years age group in accordance with the
regulatory requirements if required Ability to assist the teachers in making the school an
attractive and tidy learning environment, and to assist with displays
➢ Ability to enthuse the children in their learning
➢ Ability to carry out interventions and keep accurate records
➢ Willingness to assist with playground duties, clubs and lunch duty
