The Role
The Mine Support Medic will man the medical centre as required and attend surface and underground incidents, serving as a general point of contact for operational personnel. The post-holder will also orchestrate emergency procedures by following relevant SOPs, and promote cleanliness in the medical centre.
The Role Responsibilities
Safety:
* Manning the company medical centre when required.
* Ensuring safe working practices are followed.
* Inputting safety data into the department's software.
Planning:
* Planning shift activities effectively.
* Prioritising safe production and infrastructure operations.
* Scheduling Occupational Health medicals and driving reduction of overdue medicals.
* Proactively promoting health and wellbeing initiatives.
* Ordering of certain materials/items
Decision Making and Problem Solving:
* Working autonomously and make decisions on all role aspects.
* Collaborate with relevant management to make decisions regarding safety and effective operations maintenance.
* Use judgment to manage incidents and problems.
Operational Parameters:
* Ensure the medical centre is always available and in a state of readiness.
* Ensure the satellite medical centre is adequately prepared and stocked as required.
* Conduct face fit testing.
* Performing competency-specific and certification medical assessments to company standards.
* Conduct general occupational health screens.
* Carrying out drug and alcohol testing per company standards.
* Assisting with health risk assessments and safety-critical medicals.
* Maintaining a professional telephone manner.
Communication:
* Ensuring accurate information flow between management and workforce.
* Liaising with supervisors on daily maintenance, and external personnel as needed.
* Providing constructive advice.
Information Management:
* Using MS Office and SAP for tasks and records.
* Handling confidential employee information securely.
* Interpreting and acting upon oral/written communications, technical manuals, method statements, risk assessments and previous reports.
* Utilising all such information for effective workload implementation.
The Requirements
Experience and Knowledge:
* Understanding of risk assessments, method statements, and emergency procedures.
* Experience of safety equipment maintenance.
* Understanding of the operation of a site medical centre.
* Understanding of mining operational activities and The Mines Regulations 2014 (ideal but not essential).
* Experience in mining operational activities (ideal but not essential).
Qualifications/Certificates in:
* Level 2 Skills for Life which incorporates: Numeracy, Literacy, ITQ, or evidence of GCSE equivalent/higher.
* Risk Assessment.
* Effective Communication Skills.
* IOSH Working Safely.
* First aid at work and FREC 4 - minimum requirement.
* Phlebotomy level 3 (preferred, but not required).
