Project Engineer - Building Control Systems Kent/London Onsite Project Engineer Role Overview: The Project Engineer is a key member of the post-order delivery team, responsible for ensuring building control system projects are executed to the highest standards-on time, within budget, and with strong client satisfaction. The role can be either multi-disciplinary or focused on specialist areas depending on experience and capability. Project Engineers may be assigned full ownership of small projects or collaborate on larger-scale system deployments under the guidance of a Project Manager. Core Responsibilities by Discipline: Contract and Project Coordination Collaborate with the Project Manager (and where needed, the Contracts Manager) to understand all contractual elements of assigned projects and maintain full accountability for their execution. Plan project workflows and deliverables, including technical submittals, RFIs, reports, and commissioning schedules. Negotiate and manage sub-contracts and special purchases to ensure profitability, and liaise with procurement for accurate order fulfilment. Oversee scheduling, progress tracking, and commercial management through to final account settlement, ensuring all financial milestones and retention releases are met. Technical Design & Documentation Interpret and implement system design specifications, including drawings, valve schedules, operation descriptions, DDC strategies, and graphical interface requirements. Ensure designs adhere to internal engineering standards and industry best practices. Maintain detailed technical documentation and deliver fully compiled O&M manuals upon project completion. Commissioning & Testing Conduct comprehensive system commissioning, including field testing, motor checks, panel setup (e.g., fuses and overloads), and validation of DDC programming. Attend coordination meetings to support scheduled commissioning. Identify and report any issues that may impact commissioning timelines and escalate where required. Document additional or abortive work, ensuring no scope variation proceeds without client authorisation. Maintain accurate inventory records of materials and equipment; safeguard company assets. Demonstrate competency in IT and relevant technical applications. Use clear and professional communication-both written and verbal-when interacting with clients, colleagues, and suppliers. Organise time effectively to meet deadlines and avoid project delays. Operate within the defined company structure, accept reasonable direction, and delegate appropriately when required. Comply with all standards outlined in the company handbook.
