Philip Hoare
Personal care assistant
£33,600 - £40,800 a year
Posted: 1 October
Offer description

Regular 12 hour day shift on Wednesdays available, as well as potential to cover other days in the week.

About Me:

Hi, I'm Phil.

I'm an easy-going guy who enjoys video games, films and a very active social life, in which I go out regularly to events and to meet friends. I use a wheelchair and have a few medical needs, including a gastrostomy tube and a ventilator at night, but these are just part of my daily routine. I'm currently working part-time and pursuing a master's degree, which keeps me busy, but I also enjoy working on personal projects, such as drawing and coding.

I'm looking for someone who can assist with my care needs, as well as with daily tasks and generally just supporting me throughout the day, while respecting my independence and interests. If you're patient, friendly, and ready to support me in continuing with the things I love, we might be a great fit.

What I'm Looking For:

I need someone who is compassionate, patient, and ready to assist with my day-to-day needs. You'll need to be a good listener, easy to get along with, and committed to encouraging my independence. My ideal PA is someone who understands that I value my autonomy and is keen to support that.

Key Responsibilities:

* Personal Care: Assist with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, and grooming.
* Medical Support: Manage my gastrostomy tube and ensure proper operation of my equipment, such as my overnight ventilator and cough assist (training will be provided if necessary).
* Mobility Assistance: Help me with transferring in and out of my wheelchair, and support me in getting around both at home and outside. Help me to access everything I need in the day, such as my laptop or phone.
* Responsiveness: Be responsive and available when needed, while understanding that there will be some downtime since I won't require assistance constantly. During this time, be proactive with cleaning and managing other household chores.
* Companionship: Be a positive, friendly presence in my life; someone who I can chat with and share my interests.

What You'll Need:

* Adaptability: I will need you to be flexible, adaptable to any situation, and self-motivated. Reliability and the ability to follow instructions is of the upmost importance.
* Experience: Previous experience in caregiving or working with individuals with disabilities is a plus, but I'm also open to training someone with the right attitude.
* Skills: A strong understanding of personal care routines, a willingness to learn about my specific needs, and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
* Personality: I'm looking for someone who is patient, kind, and reliable. It's important that we get along well, as you'll be an important part of my daily life. A good sense of humour and positive outlook on life is also hugely beneficial.
* Physical Ability: You'll need to be able to assist with physical tasks like transferring and positioning me, so a reasonable level of physical fitness is required.
* Flexibility: Some flexibility in your schedule is appreciated, especially for covering sickness and annual leave for other members of the team.

Schedule:

This role is separated into 12 hour shifts where you will only be at the location for those 12 hours. This role is specifically for a person to work a regular 12 hour day shift on Wednesdays.

Why Work With Me?

This isn't just a job; it's an opportunity to make a real difference in someone's life. You'll be part of a supportive team where your contributions are valued. I believe in open communication, mutual respect, and creating a positive work environment where we can both thrive.

If you're interested in joining my team and think you'd be a good fit, I'd love to hear from you. Please submit a CV, your availability and a brief cover letter explaining why you're interested in this role when applying.

Thank you

Phil
