An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Stroke Service for two Band 6 Stroke Specialist Nurses, with the focus on the assessment and treatment of stroke patients suitable for Thrombectomy to join our team on a 6-month fixed term or secondment basis.
This is a new post, in which we are looking for a highly motivated and passionate individual to provide high quality assessment and care to Hyperacute Stroke patients. This exciting new role will involve rapid assessment of patients referred with possible stroke, ensuring appropriate hyper acute care is delivered upon arrival to hospital. This role will support the assessment and treatment of stroke patients suitable for Thrombectomy, by assisting the local physician to facilitate rapid decision making and onward referral to regional hubs if appropriate.
On a daily basis, you will also be responsible for coordinating direct admissions to the stroke unit, by working closely with the Senior Charge Nurse and patient flow team, as well as providing an outreach service to optimise care of stroke patients in other areas. The successful applicant will contribute to Scottish Stroke Care Standards by participating in clinical governance forums and the Scottish Stroke Care Audit.
We are looking for an individual who will commit to ensuring appropriate learning opportunities are met for all nursing staff caring for stroke patients - encouraging best practice to deliver high quality stroke nursing care to patients in line with NHS Forth Valley and NHS Scotland policies and guidelines. You will contribute to ensuring all staff caring for stroke patients complete the mandatory STARS, STAT and STAT+ training.
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills in order to liaise with the patient, their relatives and the Multidisciplinary Team involved in the provision of care. You will demonstrate highly effective leadership skills, with a strong desire to contribute to the ongoing development of stroke services.
You will possess a substantial amount of band 5 stroke nursing experience and demonstrate competent IT skills.
