The HIV team is recruiting a 12-month fixed term (maternity leave cover) band 7 nurse practitioner in HIV. Using advanced clinical skills the post holder will deliver advanced clinical care to our HIV patients in the outpatient and HIV dayward service.
Based at St Mary’s hospital providing HIV care of the highest quality to over 3,200 patients, this role will best suit a skilled & motivated practitioner who has contemporary, sound theoretical knowledge of HIV with proven interest & awareness in HIV issues.
You will possess excellent communication skills & the ability to prioritise & manage your own workload. You will be expected to have the desire to move the service forward using your detailed knowledge of factors influencing HIV care provision in today’s NHS
We require:
A 1st Level registered nurse (Adult or equivalent)
Current clinical HIV experience
A confident and adaptable clinician who can work at an ‘advanced level’ using patient group directions / independent nurse prescribing & clinical guidance documents
A degree in nursing / health promotion / public health or related appropriate clinical discipline.

Main duties of the job
1. Provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised sexual health care to patients and relatives/carers without supervision, and in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team in line with local and national targets.
2. The post holder will provide specialist nursing care and support, and deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.
3. Collaborate with the MDT to provide expert sexual healthcare without direct medical supervision, using clinical guidance documents (CGDs), patient group directions (PGDs) and non-medical independent prescribing as agreed by the department and Trust. The nurse will use advanced assessment and specialist skills to independently manage unselected patients attending services provided by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
4. To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and to provide cover for any area specified acting as a professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.

Essential criteria
5. Registered Nurse (adult) level 1.
6. Holds a relevant 1st degree in a nursing or associated discipline
7. To have a recognised contraceptive qualification or willingness to undertake
8. Nurse Independent Prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
9. Holds or is working towards masters level study in a relevant area
10. Leadership qualification

11. Significant post registration experience in HIV in either junior specialty role or team leader/management role
12. Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist and advanced knowledge of HIV
13. Able to independently undertake advanced clinical skills such as complex adherence, new starters, switches and the management of HIV patients.
14. Proven teaching and assessing skills.

15. Previous experience in related areas such as HIV
