About the Role: The Research Engineer will support auditory prosthesis research through the development and application of software tools, participation in experimental design and data analysis, and contribution to technical documentation. Key responsibilities include implementing and optimizing signal processing techniques, assisting with bench and behavioral evaluations, and preparing research protocols and technical reports. Primary Responsibilities: Technical support of research related to auditory prostheses Development and application of software tools related to hearing research and the advancement of implantable hearing solutions Participation in the design and execution of bench and behavioral evaluations of sound coding, signal processing, and other hearing-related algorithms Contribution to technical reports Computer programming as part of our ongoing development of research tools Implement modern signal processing techniques for analyzing data obtained from cochlear implants and cochlear implant users Optimize existing signal processing and statistics utility functions Documenting research efforts Participate in the drafting of research protocols Contribute to summary reports of technical efforts, including design and implementation details and statistical analysis of results Position Qualifications: Experience in developing software for a biomedical research application Enrolled in a University program and pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, auditory neuroscience, speech and hearing science, or a similar or related field of study Excellent inter-personal and organizational skills IT (computer, internet, phone) literacy Professional demeanor, including the ability to liaise with engineers, scientists, audiologists and research subjects Enjoys a fast-paced and multi-disciplinary work environment Proficiency in computer programming, MATLAB and/or Python preferred Excellent oral and written communication skills (English) Located within - or willing to relocate to – Durham, NC MED-EL Corporation is an Equal Opportunity/ Affirmative Action employer.
