Overview
Senior Design Engineer role at Octavius Infrastructure within the Navitas Engineering team. This role focuses on electrical design for the Rail and Energy/DNO sectors, including grid connections, substations, power distribution and renewable energy integration. The Senior Design Engineer delivers design solutions to high quality standards, works within time and budget constraints, and mentors junior engineers while ensuring compliance with sector standards and regulations.
Responsibilities
* Lead projects from feasibility through to construction and commissioning phases.
* Oversee the production of electrical designs to enable safe and efficient implementation.
* Deliver design outputs on time and within budget.
* Mentor and train junior engineers and coordinate multi-disciplinary design efforts across power systems, civil and structural disciplines.
* Coordinate and check design outputs, including drawings and documentation, in accordance with relevant standards.
* Develop and manage technical studies and investigations; perform design checks and approvals.
* Ensure compliance with industry and utility standards (e.g., ENA Engineering Recommendations, IEC standards) and applicable legislation; develop electrical designs for HV/LV networks, substations, protection systems, and renewable energy integration.
* Lead risk assessments and technical assurance processes and participate in audits and design assurance activities (e.g., NERS).
* Engage with clients and stakeholders to meet project requirements; attend design reviews and site visits as needed.
* Support commercial aspects of projects, including budget management and procurement activities; develop detailed project plans to ensure on-time delivery.
Requirements / Qualifications
* Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Chartered Engineer status through the IET or actively working towards it.
* Proven experience in the design of HV substations up to 132 kV and LV networks.
* Proven experience with the design and connection of renewable energy systems to DNO infrastructure up to 33 kV.
* Strong knowledge of DNO/utility procedures, requirements, standards, and connection agreements.
* Experience with DigSILENT PowerFactory for power system modeling and analysis; experience with Python (preferred) or MATLAB.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office; strong communication and leadership skills; right to work in the UK.
