Like many NHS Organisations the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust (WAST) recognises the need to undertake dramatic changes in its clinical delivery as the landscape of NHS provision evolves and new ways of operating are established. To ensure it can remain agile to these processes, the growth of frontline clinical leadership is required. Key to this clinical leadership is the establishment of the role of Senior Paramedic
This exciting position is designed to deliver the clinical leadership elements of the organisations Clinical Strategy and will play an integral role in driving improvements within frontline clinical practice. Having the responsibility for the clinical performance of a designated group of Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians, the Senior Paramedic role will be at the forefront of ambulance clinical practice development. Working to ensure adherence to new and established clinical practice, policy and guidance, the Senior Paramedic must be in possession of significant clinical credibility & exceptional leadership skills
As this is principally a patient facing position, line management of the Senior Paramedic will be provided by the Locality Manager
Main duties of the job
Clinical and professional leadership of the role will be delivered by the respective Health Board Clinical Lead. This ensures both the provision of care delivery and the progress of clinical performance metrics across teams.
Your application should demonstrate evidence of taking personal responsibility for your own professional development, leadership in a clinical environment, a strong desire to support and guide colleagues in other clinical roles. Applicants should be able to display sound clinical knowledge including the ability to demonstrate this across a range of clinical situations and using professional judgement to show that they can lead a team or work autonomously.
Shortlisted candidates will be required undertake a clinical assessment and interview.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Possessing an enhanced scope of practice, aimed at the provision of care towards the serious ill and injured, the Senior Paramedic will work at a level over and above that of a Paramedic.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
* A degree level of education (in relevant subject), or equivalent demonstrable experience
* HCPC Registered Paramedic including up to date completion of the band 5-6 competencies.
* Bronze and Silver IQT (Improving Quality Together)
* ILM Level 4 in Leadership and Management
* Level 3 Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving (CERAD)/ IHCD Ambulance Emergency Driving
* Evidence of relevant CPD
* Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to build an effective team ethos
* Politically astute and aware
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle complex and potentially contentious situations
* Ability to work flexibly in an environment where the work pattern is unpredictable and requiring frequent periods of concentration to meet objectives to tight deadlines
* Effective team player
* Ability to work autonomously to agreed objectives with minimum supervision
* A thorough working knowledge of current issues in the NHS especially drivers relating to integration of emergency and urgent care
