We are looking for a dedicated Stores Officer to manage and oversee the vital stores function at our Prince Rock Depot. This key operational role has direct responsibility for assets, machinery, plant, PPE, and chemicals that support numerous Plymouth City Council service areas.
Please note, this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship and we can only consider applicants with existing right to work in the UK.
You will be the lead on ensuring our teams have the equipment they need to work safely and effectively. This includes everything from day‑to‑day stock control to maintaining Hand‑Arm Vibration (HAV) compliance records and managing our chemical stores in accordance with COSHH regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Stock & Asset Management: Take responsibility for ordering, controlling, and issuing stock, including researching new products and methods of working.
* Compliance & Safety: Maintain accurate records for safety equipment and monitoring devices and oversee the issuing and maintenance of machinery and plant.
* Chemical Safety: Procure, issue, and maintain pesticides and other substances in the chemical store, ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are strictly documented.
* Depot Security: Ensure the depot is secure by managing alarms, locking/unlocking procedures, and monitoring security fencing.
* Financial Oversight: Ensure all spending is allocated correctly within financial regulations and maintain controlled spend on stock items.
This role is not suitable for flexible working due to the needs of the service.
Qualifications and Required Skills
* Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a service‑related discipline, and Functional Skills Level 2 in numeracy and literacy.
* Licensing: A full driving licence with the ability to tow large trailers.
* Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of Health and Safety, COSHH (ideally COSHH assessor trained), and fire regulations.
* Experience: Proven experience in keeping accurate records, using office software (PC), and driving larger vehicles.
* Skills: Excellent communication skills to interact with staff and management, strong numeric skills for stock control, and safe manual handling techniques.
