Teaching Assistant (TA) at TAS Independent Schools plays a key role in enhancing the learning experience for all students, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This role involves supporting teachers in delivering lessons, promoting inclusion, managing student behavior, and contributing to the overall development and well-being of students. Key Responsibilities: Teaching and Learning Support: · Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes aligned with the EQUALS Curriculum, Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) pathways, and individual EHCP outcomes. · Support students in learning life skills, vocational skills, functional English and Maths, and personal development. · Use inclusive and innovative strategies to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. · Facilitate the use of assistive technologies, AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), and sensory resources to aid student learning. Planning and Assessment: · Support teachers in preparing differentiated lesson plans and resources to meet students’ individual needs. · Assist in monitoring, recording, and evaluating student progress against SMART targets and EHCP outcomes. · Contribute to baseline assessments and ongoing formative and summative assessments under teacher supervision. · Provide scaffolding and one-to-one support to ensure student engagement and progression. Pastoral Care and Student Support: · Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports students' emotional well-being and social development. · Encourage the development of independence, communication skills, and employability skills in students. · Act as a key support worker for designated students, working closely with families, carers, and external agencies to ensure holistic support. · Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies in line with the institution’s policy, encouraging positive behaviours and emotional regulation. Collaboration and Professional Development: · Work closely with teachers, therapists, psychologists, and external professionals to deliver integrated support. · Engage with parents, carers, and stakeholders, providing updates on student progress when required. · Participate in ongoing professional development activities to enhance SEND expertise and stay informed about best practices. Compliance and Safeguarding: · Support the school in meeting statutory SEND requirements, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice. · Ensure all activities comply with safeguarding and health and safety policies, prioritising student welfare at all times. Person Specification: Essential: · Relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or willingness to work towards one having a background in education/teaching is a MUST). · Experience working with SEND students in a school or specialist setting. · Knowledge of EHCP processes and SEND curriculum frameworks. · Strong interpersonal and communication skills. · Ability to differentiate and adapt support for diverse learning needs. · Familiarity with AAC, sensory resources, and assistive technologies. · Classroom management and positive behaviour support skills. Desirable: · Additional qualifications in SEND (e.g., Makaton, TEACCH, PECS ). · Experience supporting students transitioning into adulthood, including pathways to employment, independent living, and community access. Key Performance Indicators: · Demonstrable student progress against EHCP targets and SMART goals. · Effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. · Positive feedback from students, parents, and carers. · Compliance with statutory and organisational SEND policies and safeguarding procedures.
