Job Description
The Internal Logistics Department (ILD) is responsible for ensuring that production lines receive the parts required to assemble vehicles. Operatives in this department will drive either a Tow Motor or Dolly Truck and will work on a two-shift rotating pattern within any of the production shops.
Toyota operates on a ‘Just in Time’ system, meaning parts are delivered to the plant exactly when needed there is typically only one shift’s worth of parts stored on-site. To manage stock levels efficiently, a Kanban system is used to track each part or group of small parts, ensuring minimum and maximum stock levels are maintained.
When production line operatives use a part, its corresponding Kanban is sent back to ILD. The ILD team then replenishes and reorders that stock. Tow Motor operators are responsible for delivering these parts back to the production line to keep operations running smoothly.
