Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Location – Templecombe
Hours – 4 day week Monday‑Thursday / 37 hours per week
Thales Underwater Systems are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer with an electronic and testing bias to join our team in Templecombe, as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer in our Towed Array production cell. You will contribute to the definition, implementation, and maintenance of the Industrial Strategy for existing products (work‑cell embedded) and new products (transverse activity extending between upstream/downstream) through day‑to‑day technical support to the onsite industrial footprint. You will also play a key role within the wider Industrial footprint for key products, driving the right behaviours in Design for Manufacture within Engineering and Projects. Another key element to the role will be supporting procurement as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Industry to ensure that our supply chain delivers robust products.
Key Responsibilities And Tasks
 * Contribute to the Manufacturing engineering phase and the successful introduction into production of new and legacy products within a defined production centre/area.
 * Work with the Engineering teams through the Design, Development and Qualification phase to review Product Defining Data (PDD) and ensure it is suitable for manufacture; analyse and initiate changes to PDD throughout the design and product lifecycle.
 * Prepare all data for and run Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs) on behalf of industry.
 * Identify opportunities for manufacturing equipment capital purchases with financial assessment (Cost‑Benefit Analysis & ROI) completed to drive business competitiveness.
 * Assess the Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) of products by reviewing product maturity with project teams to identify and minimise manufacturing risks.
 * Define, set up, prepare and optimise manufacturing processes and tooling for a defined area or product line; agree layout and infrastructure for a product line or manufacturing area.
 * Contribute to technological innovation to reduce costs and workflows.
 * Attend Material Review Boards (MRBs) and Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) on behalf of manufacturing, actively managing failures and changes.
 * Elaborate and implement tests & control plans for manufacturing equipment, defining and developing the test procedures and associated means (programs, benches, and interfaces).
 * Contribute to the capitalisation of experience from the production line to ensure lessons learned are captured in new product introduction.
 * Contribute to the definition and application of applicable baselines, and support end‑users of the manufacturing process.
Your Skills And Experience
 * Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and the application of lean manufacturing principles.
 * Knowledge of manufacturing systems.
 * Practical industrial experience in introducing new technologies, including managing change and conducting impact analysis.
Security Clearance
Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to be a sole British National from birth and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats. If not currently held, the successful applicant must undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment.
To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
