Imaging Assistant - Ultrasound

We are looking for an Imaging Assistant to join our Medical Imaging Department at Ipswich Hospital to cover maternity leave, part time 22.5 hours per week until 14th February 2027.
You may be required to rotate to community hospitals. The department covers X‑Ray, CT, Ultrasound and MRI. You will be based in Ultrasound but may have some requirement to rotate into the other specialties depending on service need.
As an Imaging Assistant you will provide efficient, high quality support for patients attending our radiology department. You will assist the Radiographers, Nurses, Sonographers and Radiologists to ensure all procedures and administration duties are carried out. Depending on your banding, you will also undertake specific duties in accordance with your modality. Further details of these specifics are included in the job description.
We are a 7 day service where you will work on a shift basis including long days, weekends and bank holidays as the service requires.
For this band 3 role, you may be offered a Band 2 developmental while band 3 competencies are obtained.
Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only.
Main duties of the job
* To support radiographers in preparing the patient for their examination
* To assist patients to get dressed and undressed and to chaperone patients where necessary
* To assist patients with personal care such as toileting, vomiting, bed changes or those requiring support
* To attend to patients' needs whilst in waiting areas and after examination
* Assist patients with initial safety screening for scan and medicines administered by Radiographers/ Radiologist
* To assist with the moving and handling of patients and loads using the correct moving and handling aids and techniques, including positioning of patients on and off the scanning table.
* To provide pre and post examination information to patients
* To escort patients to and from the clinical areas within Radiology
* To assist in decontaminating and cleaning ready for the next patient
Ultrasound – support and reassure patients during FNA’s and injections; assist with aseptic technique and setting up for sterile procedures; assist with wound management post procedure; transport clinical specimens, blood, and blood‑products; perform patient observations.

Person Specification
Experience
* Current experience working with the public in a public/patient facing role.
* Working within a fast‑paced, constantly changing environment.
* Accuracy with taking and relaying verbal messages.
* Understands need for accuracy both in completing tasks and record keeping.
* Staff & self‑motivation.
* Maintaining high standards.
* Experience of multi‑disciplinary team working.
* Experience of working with the public/patients across all age ranges and with varying needs in terms of language skills and physical capabilities.
* Basic patient care skills.
Qualifications
* GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
* Care certificate.
* Evidence of good written and verbal communication skills.
* NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent experience.
